Here are some tips you should follow to maximise your safety when working as a model/talent.
Never give out your home phone number or home address to a photographer or promoter unless you are sure of their authenticity.
Create an alias and use this in correspondence. Try not to give out your real name unless you are sure of their authenticity - remember most models/talents have stage names!!
Have a mobile phone you use exclusively for modelling or acting.
Try and take a friend or relative to shoots and assignments. If you can not get hold of someone make sure you tell someone where you are so they can check up on you.
Always get a full postal address and landline phone number of a photographer or casting agent, whether it is home or business. Get full details of where the shoot will take place, again full address and land line phone number. If it is a studio, call it to confirm that it is booked.
Never arrange to meet a photographer or casting agent somewhere and then go off on location or to somewhere that is not prior arranged. Either meet them at where the shoot will take place, and if it is on location then do not go alone, or have them send a taxi to collect you. Call someone with the taxi details and ask the driver exactly where they have been asked to take you. Make sure you give the full details to a friend before the taxi sets off.
If your work involves staying away from home ensure that secure accommodation is arranged before you travel and check it out first. If possible arrange your own travel and accommodation or call the hotel in advance to confirm your booking, and check the room details, like you won’t be sharing etc.
